Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin was born in Wellington, Manitoba. She grew up there. She was the first actress to make her acting debut in Flora McGrath, her character in the romance film Piano. Paquin, born in Winnipeg and raised by Wellington Paquin's father, was first seen on stage as Flora McGrath. For this role, she won the Academy Award of Best Supporting Actress for The romantic drama The Piano at the young age of eleven. She is the second youngest winner in Oscar history. After responding to a call for open auditions at the age of nine years old, with no acting experience before that the actress was chosen for Flora McGrath's part. Flora is the daughter of a Scottish pianist, who was deaf. They were relocated to New Zealand during the middle of the nineteenth century in an effort to get married. When she moved to New Zealand, in the United States, she became a teenager. Paquin was in a brief role in the film's title role when she was just a young girl in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996) and an important role in the movie Fly Away Home (1996). Paquin appeared as Frankie Addams in a 1997 TV movie adaptation of Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding and also played a part as the queen of Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). She played teenagers on Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000) and A Walk on the Moon (2000). The actress played the role of a groupie Polexia Aphrodisa on Almost Famous (2000).
